A new play by Paul Allen, adapted from the 1996 screenplay by Mark Herman.

The national Miners’ Strike has been over for ten years but in the coal communities of South Yorkshire tensions still simmer and old wounds are slow to heal.

The miners of Grimley now face the challenge of pit closures and redundancies – but if the pit goes, it looks as though their beloved brass band will go too.

Determined to play through adversity, band master Danny is sure that his mining musicians can get all the way through to the British Championships at the Royal Albert Hall.

And with new flugelhorn player, Gloria, joining the seasoned veterans, it’s a dream that might just come true…

This new adaptation for the stage marks 30 years since the release of the film. Our community production features live music from special guests Loxley Silver Band.

About Loxley Silver Band

Loxley Silver Band were established in 1889 and are now based in Stannington. They are a Fourth Section brass band and players range from 10 to 80 years old.

Venue

Please bear in mind that card payments can be taken at the venue but it is advisable to bring cash. There will be tea, coffee and a bar.

Grenoside Community Centre is served by the M92 and 86 buses. There is a car park and additional street parking.

The front entrance (on Main Street) is accessible.
