A trio of pieces in Baroque and Classical styleare at the heart of Ruth and Ben’s lunchtime concert, with Mozart’s ‘Duo’ standing out as a small-scale masterpiece.

The Duo was clearly the inspiration for Bohuslav Martinů’s colourful ‘Madrigals’, written soon after the composer settled in New York in 1947 and during a period when he was fascinated with the music of Haydn and Mozart.

Programme

  • Bach: 2-part inventions for violin and viola
  • Mozart: Duo in B flat K. 424
  • Martinu: 3 Madrigals for violin and viola
  • Handel/Halvorsen: Passacaglia in G minor
