Hecla Ensemble
The Hecla Ensemble, comprising musicians from across Sheffield, present an evening of French, Norwegian and Czech music as you’ve never heard it before. Françaix’s Dixtuor (dectet) is a rarely heard neo-classical work and is the only piece in the concert in its original form. The Holberg Suite was originally written for solo piano, before the composer made his own string orchestra edition. The ensemble will premiere a new version which gives the suite a new set of colours and interest whilst still retaining Grieg’s gorgeous melodies and unbounded energy.
To complete the programme, renowned cellist George Kennaway will join the ensemble in a performance of Dvořák’s timeless Concerto in a new edition for cello and chamber ensemble. Join us to hear some of the most enjoyable melodies committed to paper, in a completely new and innovative orchestration.
The now defunct East Hecla Works in Attercliffe was one of the largest steel producers in the city; The Hecla name makes the association between the ensemble, its city and the industry for which the area is well-known
