Beethoven Trios and Sonatas
The Leonore Piano Trio continue their cycle of the complete Beethoven violin sonatas, cello sonatas and piano trios (concert 5 of 8).
Beethoven’s Ghost Trio is arguably one of his most evocative pieces. Evidence from his notebook suggests that the slow movement, full of Gothic gloom and extraordinary tension, may originally have been written for the witches in an opera of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
The accompanying works offset the dark and sober mood of this movement with an abundance of colour and charm.
