Peter Fagerlind - Piano

Peter Fagerlind is a classically trained pianist originally from Sydney, Australia. He is well known for his wide and eclectic repertoire which ranges from Bacharach to Bach.

He will be presenting an all-French programme to coincide with the University of Sheffield and Music in the Round’s La Belle Epoque: French Weekend.  Two Pavanes, which were slow processional Spanish courtly dances of the Renaissance period form the basis of his recital. The famous Pavane by Faure (better known for the orchestral version) and Ravel's Pavane For A Dead Princess which Ravel himself indicated evokes " a pavan that a little princess might, in former times, have danced at the Spanish court". These two pieces will be interspersed with the Theme from the film Summer Of '42 by Michel Legrand and a piano arrangement of a song Mon Dieu (My God) by Edith Piaf. Peter will end the recital with the Three Gymnopedies by eccentric French composer Erik Satie. These pieces were meant to indicate ceremonial dances performed by young men at religious festivals in ancient Greece.
