Finale
Our festival ends with three more giants of Romantic music in chamber music mode, together with a short new work from recent University of Sheffield graduate Ellen Sargen. Bruckner’s Quintet has the full serenity and grandeur of his symphonies but Puccini’s Crisantemi is a stark contrast to his emotionally super-charged operas – it is a dignified elegy on the death of a friend.
We close with a newly commissioned chamber version of Wagner’s Meistersingers Overture by Iain Farrington, whose Shostakovich Jazz Suite arrangements were such a success in 2016.
Concert generously supported by Kate Dugdale.
