A commemoration of the centenary of the ending of WW1 through music, song and words

Waldershelf Singers, from Stocksbridge, led by their Musical Director, Rachel Atkinson are joined by a guest Chamber Ensemble to present a moving and uplifting concert featuring the choral music of Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man. The programme also features songs relevant to that time. There will be readings from the diary of a local man, William Ackroyd, who fought in the conflict, and poetry by Frederick Forsyth and choir member Christine Herbert. The names of local men who died will be read to the accompaniment of Nimrod, from Elgar's Enigma Variations. The audience will be invited to join in the singing of a medley of songs from 1914-1918. All profits from the concert will be in aid of the Royal British Legion.
