Goldberg
Peter Hill’s recordings of Bach have received universal acclaim, his live concert appearances around the world are keenly anticipated events, and we can’t think of a better place to experience Bach’s keyboard masterpiece than up close in the Crucible Studio. The title of these demanding and virtuoso variations is apparently a reference to the young harpsichordist Johann Gottlieb Goldberg who may have been the first performer of the collection. The key feature of this epic sequence is how the extraordinary individuality of each movement coalesces into a wonderfully unified whole.
“[Peter Hill’s]performances are driven by an emotional expressive range that at all times looks below the surface of the music to divine the depths of Bach’s creativity.” Classical Source
