A rich programme of Haydn and Brahms, including Haydn’s Mass in the Time of War

The concert opens with a wildly energetic Haydn motet Insanae et vanae curae invadunt mentes nostras, literally ‘Raging and vain cares invade our minds’! Following this, Brahms’ Gypsy Songs will transport the audience through stories of love and excitement in contrast to his stunningly tranquil Geistliches Lied which opens the second half. Finally, in the centenary year for the end of WWI, Haydn’s Mass in the Time of War features the timpani depicting a military drum.
