Ensemble 360
Warm, evocative, sensual… arresting, daring, forward-looking. The music of Ravel and Debussy is all these things and more.
Warm, evocative, sensual… arresting, daring, forward-looking.The music of Ravel and Debussy is all these things and more. Over one weekend in March, Ensemble 360, Catrin Finch and guests present the complete chamber music of these two radical and inspirational composers as part of our Festival of Chamber Music and Song from France’s Golden Age, presented in collaboration with University of Sheffield Concerts.
Ravel’s Trio, finished just a few days after the outbreak of the First World War, stands alongside Debussy’s Cello Sonata, a work conceived towards its end, Debussy’s work is in one sense traditional, built around ‘Sonata’ form, yet its character is resolutely forward-looking. Ravel’s Tzigane is a bravura piece of showmanship demanding extreme virtuosity. Expect fireworks!
