The vitality, energy and optimism of youth is brilliantly captured in this collection of early works by Beethoven. In the cello and violin sonatas, there is also a strong sense of musical tradition from an age before Beethoven tore up the rulebook, most evident in extended passages where the impression is of virtuoso piano sonatas with occasional accompaniment.
