Meet the musicians 5: Fun
The title Divertimento (Fun) suggests a light piece intended as a distraction from boredom. Mozart’s six-movement work for string trio is certainly hugely entertaining, but there are also moments of great originality and profound insight. It may be Mozart’s only work for this instrumental combination, but it is a magnificent illustration of the rich variety of texture and enticing sonority that can be achieved by just three players.
