This concert brings together more than 50 musicians to create a glorious evening of beautiful string music in the warm acoustic of Sheffield Cathedral. Small- and large-scale settings by the great pillars of the English musical tradition, Edward Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams, frame miniature masterpieces by George Butterworth and Herbert Howells.

Players from Ensemble 360 are joined by talented young musicians from Sheffield Music Academy and Sheffield Music Hub’s Orchestral Development Project (Senior Orchestra and Young Sinfonia) for this unique concert.

  • Elgar: Chanson d'amour for violin and piano
  • Elgar: Romance for bassoon and piano Op. 62
  • Howells: Rhapsodic Quintet Op.31 for clarinet and string quartet
  • Butterworth: Suite for String Quartet (excerpts)
  • Vaughan Williams: Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis
