A concert commemorating the centenary of the end of World War One

Waldershelf Singers present a moving and memorable concert in commemoration of the centenary of the end of World War One. This will be a rare performance in the UK of a The Armed Man - a Mass For Peace by Karl Jenkins, where the musical accompaniment is by a brass band.

Stannington Brass Band under the baton of their Musical Director, Derek Renshaw, have considerable success in brass band competitions and we are thrilled that they are joining us tonight. Sheffield Cathedral is a fitting venue for such a powerful and compelling account of the descent into, and consequences of war. Jenkins' Armed Man was commissioned for the millennium by the Royal Armouries and is dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo crisis.

Based on parts of the Latin Mass it also has contemporary elements and reflects cultures and religions worldwide. This evening's performance also features music and verse from the time of World War One.
