The Wayfarer
An evening of intense Romantic harmonies. Wagner’s Siegfried Idyllwas composed as a private birthday offering to his wife and was first performed on a staircase at the family home on Christmas morning – six years later, themes from the Idyll were woven into the epic opera Siegfried. Mahler’s own poems for Songs of a Wayfarer reveal the emotional aftermath of a failed romance that left the young composer in abject despair.
Concert generously supported by James and Angela Kellie.
