30 years on, a concert of Choral Music recalling the Berlin Wall

The Sterndale Singers under conductor Robert Webb present a programme of Choral Music inspired by the 30th Anniversary of the falling of the Berlin Wall.

Entitled "A Fragile Peace" the concert explores through sacred music some issues surrounding war and peace, with poignant settings of biblical texts and poems.

At a time when the relative peace and stability that we have enjoyed since the ending of the Cold War seems more and more fragile, this concert will, we hope, help focus and challenge our thoughts through beautiful music.

Programme

  • Jenkins: Hymn before action
  • Haydn: Insanae et vanae curae
  • Mendessohn: Richte mich Gott
  • Part: Beatitudes
  • Poulenc: Un soir de neige
  • Howells: O pray for the peace of Jerusalem
  • Bainton: And I saw a new Heaven
  • Bernstein: Chichester Psalms (extract)
  • Schutz: Selig sind die toten
  • Rheinberger: Abendlied
  • Ireland: Greater love
  • Purcell: Jehova quam multi sunt hostes
  • Gallus: Estoto fortes in bello
