Accent on Youth Summer Concert
Chamber music from Haydn to Ravel showcasing and the talents of upcoming violinist Lizzie Dawson
This gorgeous concert of music from Sheffield Chamber Orchestra includes three pieces played by the Orchestra and two where the Orchestra accompanies our guest soloist Lizzie Dawson on Violin.
In this concert the SCO provides a platform for aspiring musicians to showcase their talents and to provide an opportunity for them to play concert repertoire accompanied by an orchestra, and we are delighted to welcome Lizzie Dawson who has has chosen to play two very contrasting pieces: -
Beethoven's Romance in F - a wonderfully lyrical piece by one of the acknowledged masters of Classic Music
Czardas by Monti a truly virtuoso piece based Hungarian Gypsy melodies and requiring amazing technical abilities on from the soloist
The pieces the Orchestra is preforming are also very varied and a real treat.
The first is Respighi's "Trittico Botticelliano" should be much better known. Actually three pieces based on three paintings by the well-known artist Botticelli. Respighi shows a unique versatility in the orchestration the normal orchestral string section is accompanied only by four winds, a horn, a trumpet, and a “color” section consisting of bells, triangle, piano, celeste and harp.
Secondly the orchestra is also performing Ma Mere l’Oye (aka Mother Goose) by Ravel. Five miniatures one of which (Beauty and the Beast) includes a contrabassoon.
The delightful evening is rounded off with Haydn's London Symphony (No 104)
