Schubert’s Octet, featuring five string and three wind players, is a kaleidoscope of mood, tone and spirit that fuses the intimacy of delicate chamber music with grand outbursts on an orchestral scale.

Jörg Widmann’s richly tonal Octet was written by the outstanding clarinettist and composer in homage to Schubert, and specifically as a companion piece to the original work.

“Jörg Widmann: the musical anarchist who brings a hefty dose of sheer joy.” The Guardian

“We just love playing Widmann’s Octet! Originally conceived as a companion to Schubert’s work, it’s kind of off-the-wall but easy to listen to. What more could you want?” Naomi Atherton, horn, Ensemble 360
