Feel The Spirit
An uplifting evening of song featuring works by Rutter, Copland and Poulenc.
For our first full concert of the year The Sheffield Chorale will be presenting three full works of folk songs. The whole programme presents an easy listening opportunity to hear one of Sheffield's well known choirs, conducted by Neil Taylor. It features 3 cycles of folk songs, 2 from America and the third from France. Some of the songs are lively and fun whilst others are more gentle but all are superbly arranged by 3 well known composers.
John Rutter’s ‘Feel The Spirit’ is a cycle of seven spirituals, including ‘Joshua fit the battle of Jericho’, ‘Steal away’, ‘Deep river’ and ‘When the saints go marching in’, all arranged in a variety of styles.
Aaron Copland’s ‘Old American songs’ is a lively collection of ten songs including ‘The Boatmen’s Dance’, ‘Simple Gifts’, and ‘I bought me a cat’.
Poulenc’s ‘Huit chansons francaises’, a set of eight unaccompanied French songs, completes the programme.
