The forces of Sheffield Young Singers and Sheffield Music Academy combine in an all-English feast of music for voices and strings

in:spire with... is delighted to host a unique collaboration between two of Sheffield's most talented youth music groups; Sheffield Young Singers and Sheffield Music Academy. The two groups will perform both alone and as combined forces, in an all-English extravaganza of music for choir and strings, including works by Purcell, Stanford, Britten and Holst.

The evening will have an informal vibe and will be followed by wine and cake. The event is free of charge, although a donation of £7 (cash) on the door would be welcomed. Doors open at 6.30pm.

SHEFFIELD YOUNG SINGERS

Our three groups all offer high quality, weekly singing sessions. We sing all types of music including choral music, musical theatre, world music and our own commissioned works. There are no auditions, commitment and a desire to
sing are all that is required. In return we offer fun, friendship and chances to perform.  In Sheffield we have sung in venues such as The Crucible Studio, City Hall, the Library Theatre, St Andrew’s Psalter Lane and St John’s, Ranmoor.  Our Young Singers have also performed at London’s Roundhouse and MAC, Birmingham. We collaborate with a range of partners including Music in the Round, Abbeydale Singers, Sheffield Music Hub and Sheffield Music Academy.

SHEFFIELD MUSIC ACADEMY

Sheffield Music Academy are a music education charity supported by the Department of Education, Music and Dance Scheme as part of the national network of Centres of Advanced Training.  Sheffield Music Academy offers expert tuition and specialist training for young people (aged 8-18) with outstanding ability, dedication and potential, across Sheffield and the surrounding area.  They seek to deliver musical excellence within a supportive, encouraging and welcoming environment.

Every student at the Sheffield Music Academy receives individual support and a tailored timetable to help them maximise their musical potential.  They offer tuition on a range of instruments, in a variety of genres including classical, folk, popular and contemporary styles. Practical studies are underpinned with technical and theoretical studies. Means-tested DfE grants help the Sheffield Music Academy to realise their vision to identify and tutor talented young musicians, regardless of personal circumstances.

In 2006 they opened their doors to 13 students and now provide music education for around 100, many of whom have gone on to study music at conservatoire or university.

The Sheffield Music Academy runs for 30 Saturdays during term time from 8.30am – 5.00pm at Birkdale Senior School, Sheffield.
