An hour of informal music-making with world-class guitarist and BBC Radio 3 broadcaster, Tom McKinney

in:spire with is delighted to host an hour's music-making with the versatile and sought-after, Tom McKinney - classical guitar. A star guitarist, as well as frequent presenter on BBC Radio 3, Tom is also Programme Manager for Sheffield's own 'Music in the Round'. Take a break from this month's wintry chills and bask in the exoticism of this South-Amercian themed concert!

The evening will have an informal vibe and will be followed by wine and cake. The event is free of charge, although a donation of £7 (cash) on the door would be welcomed. Doors open at 6.30pm.

TOM MCKINNEY BIOGRAPHY

A regular voice on BBC Radio 3, Tom presents Afternoon Concert, Hear & Now, the live matinee concerts with the BBC Philharmonic, is a regular contributor to The Essay and Record Review, has written and presented numerous features, and in the last six years has also presented Breakfast, Opera on 3 and live outdoor broadcasts throughout the country.

As a guitarist, Tom is in great demand as a performer of new music, and has been involved in premiere performances of works by Louis Andriessen, Luke Bedford, Gerard Brophy, George Crumb, Alexander Goehr, Michael Gordon, Larry Goves, Tom Harrold, Jonathan Harvey, Hans Werner Henze, David Horne, Jo Kondo, James Saunders, Matt Sergeant, Myeczieslaw Weinberg, Julia Wolfe and Ian Vine. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at the BBC Proms, Aldeburgh Festival, Brighton Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Spitalfields Festival, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, KammerKlang at Café Oto, London Contemporary Music Festival, Buxton Festival, St.Magnus Festival, Warwick Festival and Lancaster International Concert Series.

As Programme Manager at Music in the Round based in Sheffield, Tom is responsible for organising the chamber music series and May Festival at the Crucible Theatre.

Tom teaches guitar at the Royal Northern College of Music and is an audition consultant for Live Music Now!
