A wonderful evening of Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn and Elgar plus Anthony Thompson playing Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in E-Flat

Not only does this concert feature some of the very best known and most popular music from the classical repertoire it will also showcase some specific instruments from the orchestra.

  • Amongst many highlights for the evening, outstanding trumpeter Anthony Thompson will be playing Haydn's trumpet concerto
  • You may also be fascinated to hear recorders used in an orchestral piece. Bach uses two in his Brandenburg Concerto No. 4
  • And our horn section stars in Mendelssohn's incidental music to ‘A Midsummer’s Night Dream’ (On this occasion we're playing the Nocturne and Scherzo)
  • To complete the mix you'll get to hear not only Elgar's ever-popular Chanson de Matin, but also it's sister piece Chanson de Nuit which is performed much less often. The evening will round off with Mozart's Symphony No. 36 -- The Linz

Doors open 19:00 and there is a licensed bar for the whole evening (before the concert; during the interval and afterwards) so you can really relax and enjoy yourself.

And to complete the arrangements we have family tables available at the back of the hall so that your children can be colouring and generally enjoying themselves whilst you listen to this wonderful music.

“Anthony Thompson is a stunning trumpet player. A gorgeous creamy tone, linked with great versatility and musicality make him a joy to listen to, in whichever genre he is performing.” Nigel Swinford – Conductor
