Music for piano and strings with Sheffield's resident Ensemble 360
A piano trio by Mozart and two piano quintets by family-linked Czech composers, Suk and Dvořák
A delightful Mozart appetiser is the prelude to a Czech family affair. Dvořák’s Second Piano Quintet, featuring one of the composer’s most irresistible folk tunes, was an immediate success from its first performance in 1888. Czech folk and dance tunes can also be heard in Josef Suk’s Piano Quintet, a youthful piece with a beguiling blend of enthusiasm and melancholy. Five years after its composition, Suk married Dvořák’s eldest daughter!
