An evening centering on the string sextet from Strauss’s opera Capriccio, with the Guild of Strings and their guest Caroline Hallam.

A special autumn evening with the Guild of Strings and guest Caroline Hallam, this concert centres on the fabulous string sextet from Strauss’s opera Capriccio.

The programme will also feature music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Richard Strauss and Edward Elgar as well as songs, stories and poetry from the world of stage and screen.

Capriccio’s theme can be summarized as ‘Which is the greater art - poetry or music?” It tells the story of a Countess torn between two suitors: one a composer, one a poet. Caroline and the Guild will ponder this creative dilemma as they lead the audience through fine examples of both arts from the Classical, Operatic, Musical Theatre and Pop repertoires.

Free to accompanied under-18s. Ticket price includes an interval drink.

The Guild of Strings was formed in April 2017, with the ambition to perform the vast repertoire of beautiful string music in exciting and innovative ways. Caroline Hallam is a Music Leader in voice with Sheffield Music Hub. She has performed as an actor, musician and singer all over the UK.
