A finger clicking, toe tapping evening of choral jazz and blues

Summer is a perfect time to sit back and enjoy a laid back evening of blues and jazz choral music, presented to you by The Sheffield Chorale with accompanying jazz trio. So come and join us at St. Andrew's church for this evening consisting of three fairly contemporary works.

John Rutter, as one of our regularly featured composers, needs no introduction. On this occasion his 'Birthday Madrigals' provides five beautiful musical settings to the words of Shakespeare, John Wilbye, Sir Philip Sydney and Marlowe, with fa-la-laahs, do-be-doos and romance in abundance!

‘The Birthday Madrigals’ were written in celebration of the 75th birthday of the great jazz pianist, George Shearing and therefore provide a link to the second work we will perform, Shearing’s ‘Songs and Sonnets’. It focuses solely on the words of Shakespeare, with seven delightful arrangements including ‘It was a lover and his lass’, ‘Live with me and be my love’ and a luscious setting of ‘Who is Sylvia’.

The final work will bring us right up to date with Will Todd’s ‘Mass in Blue’ which is a dynamic, uplifting and popular jazz setting of the Latin mass, featuring a soprano soloist and jazz trio.

Our Musical Director, Neil Taylor, will conduct us and the soprano soloist will be Hannah Wysome. We will be accompanied by a jazz trio with Pete Durrant on the piano and Joss Mann-Hazel on double-bass.
