Carnival
The Sheffield Chamber Music Festival 2020 comes to an end with Ensemble 360's celebration of Beethoven and Saint-Saens.
We celebrate the end of the Festival with music by ‘the Master’ and by one of his biggest admirers, Camille Saint-Saëns.
Beethoven’s Piano Quartet, with its virtuosic keyboard part, is almost a miniature chamber piano concerto and lovers of his piano sonatas and concertos will find something of both in this sparkling work. Saint-Saëns tantalises with distinctive, lively and imaginative pieces and, for our Festival finale, Ensemble 360 is joined by pianist Peter Hill for one of the composer’s most famous and joyous works. Carnival of the Animals features vivid and witty representations of the animal kingdom, from the graceful swan to a royal lion, wild donkeys, pianists(!) and many more.
