“To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.”
Oscar Wilde, An Ideal Husband

This show proves even today no one should take themselves too seriously. History repeats itself over and over again and now Instagram, Twitter and Facebook are subject to the same flaws we humans bring to everything we touch. Before social media existed to reach a large audience you read a newspaper, Punch magazine or went to the theatre. This Gilbert & Sullivan opera is a satire on the aesthetic movement of the 1870s and '80s in England and, more broadly, on fads, superficiality, vanity, hypocrisy and pretentiousness; it also satirises romantic love, rural simplicity and military bluster.
