Prodigy
A lunchtime concert celebrating the precocious talents of the young Felix Mendelssohn
Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Quartet in B minor is compelling evidence of the young composer’s precocious talents. Dedicated to the poet Goethe, this remarkable piece was completed in 1825 when Mendelssohn was just 15. Bernhard Crusell has been described as “the outstanding Finnish composer before Sibelius”. He was a contemporary of Beethoven, and this charming Divertimento demonstrates his lyrical talents.
