Brigantes Jazz Origins
Come and join the party! The Brigantes play jazz in this fun-filled, tune-packed concert at Sheffield's City Hall.
This is the perfect moment to get back to the concert hall, or visit for the first time!
Who could forget the sound of that clarinet gliding up to its bluesy top notes? So begins Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, the first fusion of classical music and jazz, and the centrepiece of this approachable and fun programme.
The undiscovered gem is a performance of the Afro-American Symphony by William Grant Still, the first symphony written by an African American, full of jazz harmony, and until the 1950s the most widely performed symphony composed by an American.
