Classic dramatic favourite

Sheffield Bach Society present their first concert of the season with their new conductor Philip Collin - and it's Mendelssohn's dramatic classic oratorio Elijah. Telling the story of the Old Testament prophet, the composer drew on the spirit of Baroque predecessors Bach and Handel, whose music he greatly admired. From the angelic Lift Thine Eyes to the thunderous Baal We Cry To Thee and Then Did Elijah, this is a work that cries out to be heard live.

Performers

Sheffield Bach Choir (choir), Philip Collin (Conductor), National Festival Orchestra (orchestra), Peter Shepherd (Organ), Christina Birchall-Sampson (Soprano), Ailsa Mainwaring (Alto), Warren Gillespie (Tenor) and William Burn (Bass)
