Historic Sheffield community space reimagined for Verdi’s iconic opera

Join Opera on Location as they launch their brand-new English adaptation of Verdi’s celebrated A Masked Ball by transforming SADACCA’s industrial GMill into a vibrant street fair.

For a sizzling three nights at the end of August 2024 find yourself in the heart of an annual street festival, where an epic tale of politics, intrigue, corruption, betrayal and love is set to be the event of the summer.

Popular and beloved politician Riccardo is campaigning for his upcoming election. Although all is not as it seems: a plot to disgrace his name is afoot, and alongside his own misplaced love for his close friend’s wife, Amelia, his downfall is impending.

After celebrating the company’s 10th year anniversary in 2023 with a sold out concert held at Upper Chapel, Sheffield’s homegrown professional opera company, are delighted to be back showcasing another unique space at SADACCA (Sheffield and District African Caribbean Community Association), a venue which prides itself on being an inclusive and collaborative anchor organisation for the local communities it serves.

With a new interpretation written and directed by Opera on Location favourite Ashley Pearson, A Masked Ball will showcase an orchestra of 17 instrumentalists and feature a local community chorus under the musical direction of Gamal Khamis.

Performances are approximately 2 hours 20 minutes long. The performances will take place from August 22nd through until August 24th, start time at 7:30pm, but audiences are welcome to arrive from 6:45pm.

Tickets can be purchased through the Opera on Location website, or using the link on this page.
