A Mirror on History
A concert of music bound to its cultural and historical surroundings.
Join the Sheffield Symphony Orchestra for one of our most epic performances yet. Shostakovich's 7th Symphony is a first hand portrait of the Siege of Leningrad orchestrated for a full symphony orchestra with additional brass, piano and percussion. A though provoking symphony of emotional contrasts that reflects the cultural and historical context in which it was written. The symphony is joined with two other works that also hold the mirror to their times, Rachmaninov's Isle of the Dead typifying Russian Romanticism and Adams' Short Ride in a Fast Machine encapsulating American Minimalism.
