SUMMARY:Verdi's Requiem
DESCRIPTION:The Sheffield Symphony Orchestra\, Hallam Choral Society and the Escafeld Chorale join forces to bring Verdi’s magnificent Requiem to Victoria Hall to celebrate the end of the SSOs 70th season. One not to be missed!

ORGANIZER;CN="Sheffield Symphony Orchestra":MAILTO:For Potential Players The SSO takes pride in the friendliness and supportive attitude between players. We believe this is why members have such long-standing loyalty and commitment to the orchestra. However, our membership does need to remain large enough to present the extensive repertoire we offer. In particular, we are looking to recruit more string players, especially violin and viola players of all ages. If you are interested, you can come along to a mutual trial period to see if it feels right. We rehearse weekly on Wednesday evenings from early September to late June, except during school holidays. To develop our orchestral sound, we plan to have day schools this season. This will be combined with social occasions to foster the orchestral camaraderie. We play to a high standard so players are expected to be a minimum level of grade 7 and usually around grade 8 or above. If the SSO’s description seems to match what you are looking for and you are curious, don’t hesitate to contact us via the website or Facebook, tweet us on Twitter, or call 07901 566960 to find out more.

SUMMARY:The Hallé – Mendelssohn Elijah
DESCRIPTION:Hallé Choral Director\, Matthew Hamilton\, takes the helm for this spectacular season finale. A true showstopper\, Mendelssohn’s Elijah captures the full spectrum of humanity’s struggles and triumphs\, bringing the powerful story of the prophet Elijah to life through music. For this masterpiece\, Sheffield’s resident orchestra and chorus will be joined by a star-studded cast of soloists who will weave this rich tapestry of sound\, blending rousing choruses\, lyrical arias\, complex choral fugues and vivid orchestrations\, ending with a triumphant “Amen”. \nCommissioned by the Birmingham Triennial Music Festival in 1846\, Mendelssohn returned to conduct the premiere of Elijah to find crowds had flooded the streets and the large audience frequently interrupted the performance to applaud! “Never was there a more complete triumph” wrote a reviewer in The Times. \nTHE HALLÉ\nSHEFFIELD PHILHARMONIC CHORUS \nMatthew Hamilton conductor\nA star studded casts of soloists \nMENDELSSOHN Elijah (133)

SUMMARY:Spooky Men's Chorale
DESCRIPTION:A magnificent\, many headed beast which has single-handedly turned the world of men’s singing upside down.\nBypassing well trodden avenues\, The Spooky Men’s Chorale carve out new territories of mighty man sounds\, exquisite tenderness and charming stupidity to both celebrate and mock masculinity. \nFormed in New South Wales in 2001 the Spookies have become rock solid festival and theatre favourites throughout Australia\, Europe and the UK with 7 albums and 900 gigs under their belts. \nNo subject is too trivial or weighty for their attention\, and such ability to find new musical rooms to explore contributes greatly to their astonishing fan loyalty. \nThe show evokes musical worlds far beyond that suggested by their unassuming\, casually hatted\, black clad appearance. They’re just a bunch of blokes but where they take you will blow your mind. \n“Sheer musical excellence. Like the ghosts of choristers long gone” Sydney Morning Herald \n“Don’t miss an opportunity to see them” Daily Telegraph
