SUMMARY:Bradfield Festival of Music 2026 : Tim Kliphuis Trio
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, the Bradfield Festival of Music features a week of wonderful concerts performed by highly sought artists in the magical setting of St Nicholas’ Church\, High Bradfield with its superb acoustic and fantastic views across Bradfield Dale. \nAward-winning Dutch violinist Tim Kliphuis has created a brand new style that embraces classical\, gypsy jazz and folk. Hailed as a ‘current-day improvising Paganini’\, his inclusive and innovative approach to music has united audiences and is influencing a new generation of string players. \nThis year – the 20th year of touring with his trio – Tim will be presenting a brand-new\, virtuosic interpretation of George Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ that swings\, grooves and dazzles. With their trademark high-octane sound\, the three play the role of orchestra and soloist\, bringing back the free-flowing improvisational energy that Gershwin’s timeless melodies deserve. \nPaired with the ‘Rhapsody’ is the Trio’s popular arrangement ‘Hoedown for the Common Man’\, as performed with orchestras across the world\, that celebrates the music of yet another legendary American composer: Aaron Copland. To top this exciting programme off\, the Trio play some Gershwin gems: ‘It Ain’t Necessarily So’\, ‘I Got Rhythm’ and ‘They Can’t Take That Away from Me’ in a solo guitar version. \nMore details on the Festival website. \nOnline ticket sales are available at https://bradfieldfestivalofmusic.littleboxoffice.com/browse from 1st March 2026. \nFor other booking options (by post\, over-the-counter\, telephone) and patron tickets for the whole festival\, please see the Festival website.

SUMMARY:BIRD TUNES: MIRANDA RUTTER (fiddle & viola)\, SAM SWEENEY (fiddle) & ROB HARBRON (concertina)
DESCRIPTION:Music in the Round is delighted to welcome three of the finest folk musicians working today to perform a new suite of tunes\, crafted from fragments of birdsong recorded on woodland walks by the brilliant fiddle player and composer Miranda Rutter. \nPerformed with “concertina wizard” (The Guardian) Rob Harbron and “the fiddler with the golden ear” (BBC Radio 3) Sam Sweeney\, as well as field recordings of this most elemental form of music\, it is a love-song to avian beauty and a timely reminder of the struggles faced by migrating birds. \n“I follow in a long line of musicians from prehistory who’ve been inspired by birdsong – it being such an enchanting wonder of the world!  For me\, listening deeper\, discovering intricacies and learning to recognise birds by their song has made me care even more about birds and their habitat. As so many species are struggling in this rapidly changing\, human-dominated world\, I hope that my contribution can help spark intrigue\, spread awareness and in turn\, generate action to turn the tide of fortune for these awe-inspiring creatures.”\nMiranda Rutter \n“Bird Tunes is\, very simply\, utterly beautiful. A glorious bringing together of field recordings\, birdsong and three incredible musicians. Nature and music in perfect harmony.”\nTradfolk

SUMMARY:Hidden Track – Contemporary Classical Music Night
DESCRIPTION:We are a monthly series dedicated to promoting and showcasing contemporary classical music in the heart of Sheffield. \nWe’ll be hosting Hidden Track on the first Monday of every month at The Beaten Track. \nEntry is free. Open to performers\, composers\, and appreciators of all kinds. \nHow it works: \nEvery Hidden Track night will have two halves. The first half will be programmed performances. The second half will be experimental group improvisation. There will be a short break in between – do take advantage of the delicious drinks on offer from The Beaten Track! \nIf you would like to perform or have your piece performed during the first half\, please email us at hiddentracksheff@gmail.com. We are looking specifically for post-1960s compositions\, including your own works. This is a chance to try out new works in a relaxed and supportive environment. \nThe second half is a chance for musicians to experiment and create new sounds and timbres together. This jam session is for both experienced and new improvisers alike\, and your hosts will guide the session. Explorations of unconventional instrumentations and styles are welcome! \nIf you have no desire to perform or jam\, you are very welcome to come along and listen.
