SUMMARY:Choral Jukebox
DESCRIPTION:The choir of St John’s will be singing… well\, whatever you ask them to. \nLike with any traditional jukebox\, there will be a list of available pieces from which to choose (in exchange for a donation). \nBut\, perhaps like a more modern jukebox\, there is a wider world of music out there and we might be able to sing your off-menu selection\, copyright and other constraints permitting. But it will cost you… \nFree admission (with retiring collection in aid of our the Inspire Project – a fund that is raising money for urgent repair work to our iconic spire) but you can pay to hear the music you want to hear!

SUMMARY:Hallé Orchestra- Sheffield International Concert Season 2026/27 –
DESCRIPTION:Opening the Sheffield International Concert season with a bang the Hallé Orchestra returns with its widely-acclaimed Principal Conductor\, Kahchun Wong\, now in his third season at the helm. The concert begins with Liszt’s symphonic poem\, Les preludes\, which erupts into a sumptuous melody after its tentative opening\, and closes with Stravinsky’s dazzling firebird suite\, a work alive with colour\, rhythmic drive and fairy-tale melodrama. Sir Stephen Hough joins our resident orchestra for Beethoven’s majestic “Emperor” Piano Concerto\, widely considered by mans fans to be his best with its pure\, dreamy second movement and utterly joyous finale.

SUMMARY:Spooky Men's Chorale
DESCRIPTION:A magnificent\, many headed beast which has single-handedly turned the world of men’s singing upside down.\nBypassing well trodden avenues\, The Spooky Men’s Chorale carve out new territories of mighty man sounds\, exquisite tenderness and charming stupidity to both celebrate and mock masculinity. \nFormed in New South Wales in 2001 the Spookies have become rock solid festival and theatre favourites throughout Australia\, Europe and the UK with 7 albums and 900 gigs under their belts. \nNo subject is too trivial or weighty for their attention\, and such ability to find new musical rooms to explore contributes greatly to their astonishing fan loyalty. \nThe show evokes musical worlds far beyond that suggested by their unassuming\, casually hatted\, black clad appearance. They’re just a bunch of blokes but where they take you will blow your mind. \n“Sheer musical excellence. Like the ghosts of choristers long gone” Sydney Morning Herald \n“Don’t miss an opportunity to see them” Daily Telegraph

SUMMARY:Mostar Sevdah Reunion
DESCRIPTION:The pioneers of 21st century sevdah.\nMostar Sevdah Reunion is an exceptional collective of artists united by a single\, profound passion. Some might say they live for Sevdah—that this centuries-old music is not merely their vocation\, but their reason for being. Interpreting and presenting a musical tradition more than 400 years old\, rooted in Bosnia and Herzegovina\, is no easy task. Yet despite war\, loss\, and countless obstacles\, Mostar Sevdah Reunion has endured. \nThe story begins in 1993 when Dragi Šestić\, the producer and founder of the band\, recorded an audiocassette with a couple of tracks that were distributed in limited edition among their friends. Those were the times of war in the Balkans\, and the reason for recording was just a getaway episode to momentarily forget all the atrocities and suffering. Then\, they made the promise that “the whole world will know about Sevdah” – one day when the war would come to an end. They fulfilled the promise and recorded their first album\, “Mostar Sevdah Reunion\,” in 1998. Since that day\, they have been captivating their audiences wherever they go.

SUMMARY:The Hallé – Imogen Cooper performs Mozart
DESCRIPTION:Hallé award-winning conductor Euan Shields is joined by Dame Imogen Cooper to perform Mozart’s final piano concerto. Written in striking contrast to his other concertos\, Mozart’s 27th Piano Concerto\, full of richness and lyricism\, is scored for a relatively small orchestra. Nevertheless\, it is still packed with the charm and beauty so characteristic of the composer’s other works. \nBeginning proceedings is Stravinsky’s Song of the Nightingale – an effective musical illustration of both real and mechanical birdsong. Tchaikovsky’s Second Symphony\, dubbed “Little Russian” thanks to its effective use of Ukrainian folksongs\, provides a joyful end to the evening. \nEuan Shields conductor\nImogen Cooper piano \nSTRAVINSKY Song of the Nightingale (21)\nMOZART Piano Concerto No.27\, K595 (32)\nTCHAIKOVSKY Symphony No.2 “Little Russian” (32)
