SUMMARY:Brigantes Bach to Britten
DESCRIPTION:BRITTEN Sinfonietta Op. 1\nBACH Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 in D\nBACH Triple Concerto BWV1044\nSTRAVINSKY Dumbarton Oaks Concerto\nAlice Power (Piano)\, Laura Jellicoe (Flute)\, David Milsom (Violin) \nStep into a musical time machine and explore how great composers have shaped the sounds we hear today. Each concert in our new season begins in a different year\, then travels across the centuries to reveal how familiar ideas – beautiful melodies\, vivid storytelling\, nature\, memory and national character – have been reimagined again and again. \nImagine composers in the first decades of the 1900s revisiting the music of JS Bach\, what might they have written? Well\, Stravinsky’s Dumbarton Oaks Concerto is\, in all but name\, another Brandenburg Concerto\, but with a distinctly modern voice. Each piece in this programme\, the Britten Sinfonietta\, the Stravinsky\, and two pieces by Bach\, exploit small forces and make soloists of the orchestral musicians.

SUMMARY:Brigantes Missing Pieces
DESCRIPTION:SCHUBERT Symphony No. 8\nMOZART Requiem \nStep into a musical time machine and explore how great composers have shaped the sounds we hear today. Each concert in our new season begins in a different year\, then travels across the centuries to reveal how familiar ideas – beautiful melodies\, vivid storytelling\, nature\, memory and national character – have been reimagined again and again. \nOur journey ends with a year that stays in the memory of musicians as the year of Mozart’s death – 1791. His unfinished Requiem is played alongside another iconic\, unfinished work\, the 8th Symphony of Franz Schubert. Completed by later hands\, both pieces remain powerful\, moving and deeply human\, reminding us that great music can outlive its moment and continue speaking across generations. \nThe Brigantes Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Quentin Clare with Sarah Helsby Hughes (soprano)\, Nicola Wemyss (mezzo-soprano)\, David Watkin-Holmes (tenor) & Matthew Baker (baritone).
