DESCRIPTION:Adult Beginners String Orchestra \n…for players of violin\, viola\, cello and double bass\, approximately Grade 1 – 5 standard \nPlease note: this extended workshop includes our Christmas Social with seasonal music-making\, and will last 3 hours instead of the usual 2 hours. \nHave you started to learn to play an instrument recently\, or are you a returning\, rather rusty\, player? Perhaps your aim is to join an orchestra? This workshop will give you the opportunity to experience what playing in an ensemble is like in a fun\, relaxed and stress-free environment. \nThe workshop is aimed at players who have never played in an ensemble before\, or have had very little experience. \nWe will tackle a number of short ensemble pieces\, in a variety of styles. There will be a number of different parts to choose from\, of varying levels of difficulty\, and we will play music in first position only. Each concert in our new season begins in a different year\, then travels across the centuries to reveal how familiar ideas – beautiful melodies\, vivid storytelling\, nature\, memory and national character – have been reimagined again and again. \nOur next stop is 1887\, where Rimsky-Korsakov paints a dazzling musical picture of Spain. From there\, Spanish rhythms and colour inspire very different responses – from Prokofiev’s expressive violin writing to the vibrant storytelling of Falla’s Three-Cornered Hat. It’s a programme full of energy\, atmosphere\, (castanets)\, and unmistakable character! \nSarah Helsby Hughes (soprano) and Charlie Lovell-Jones (violin)
