Each concert in our new season begins in a different year\, then travels across the centuries to reveal how familiar ideas – beautiful melodies\, vivid storytelling\, nature\, memory and national character – have been reimagined again and again. \nOur next stop is 1887\, where Rimsky-Korsakov paints a dazzling musical picture of Spain. From there\, Spanish rhythms and colour inspire very different responses – from Prokofiev’s expressive violin writing to the vibrant storytelling of Falla’s Three-Cornered Hat. The journey continues with Vaughan Williams’ and Beethoven – each composer inspired by the countryside\, birdsong and open landscapes. All captured in their own distinctive way.
