DESCRIPTION:Experience the epic sound worlds of gaming in concert\, performed by Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra in collaboration with Sheffield Chorale\, as part of Classical Sheffield’s Classical Weekend at the Octagon Centre. \nFrom sweeping orchestral scores to instantly recognisable themes\, this programme celebrates the artistry\, emotion and storytelling power of video game music across generations of players. \nThe first half journeys through some of the most celebrated contemporary game soundtracks\, including music from God of War Ragnarök\, Ratchet & Clank\, Horizon: Call of the Mountain\, Starfield\, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Star Citizen. These works showcase the scale and cinematic ambition of modern game scoring\, where full symphonic writing meets immersive interactive storytelling. \nThe second half pays tribute to iconic themes from gaming history. From the nostalgia of Super Mario Bros.\, Tetris and Dragon Quest XI\, to the emotional depth of Minecraft\, Halo\, Medal of Honor and Civilization IV’s Baba Yetu\, the programme traces the evolution of video game music into one of the most dynamic and widely loved genres of the 21st century. Highlights include powerful orchestral arrangements such as Adagio for Strings from Homeworld and the symphonic finale from Asura’s Wrath. \nBringing together orchestra\, chorus and screen-led storytelling\, this is a landmark celebration of gaming music on the concert stage.
