Requiem for Unsung Heroes

THE SHEFFIELD CHORALE AND YORKSHIRE WIND ORCHESTRA
Saturday 15 th November at 7:30 pm. All Saints Church, Ecclesall.

This collaborative concert between the Sheffield Chorale and The Yorkshire Wind Orchestra will
feature the very moving ‘Requiem for Unsung Heroes’, composed by the choir’s resident composer,
Sue Hughes. Specially scored for 4 part choir and wind orchestra, it was composed in honour of the
many who selflessly gave of themselves during the Covid 19 pandemic. This beautiful work uses the
words from the Latin Requiem Mass, interspersed with poems by Moira Cameron, Masha Bennett
and Mary Elizabeth Frye, set to music by Sue. This will be the first time it has been performed in
Sheffield and is not to be missed.
The choir, directed by Kate Shipway, will also perform Quatre Motets by Durufle and pieces by less
familiar composers – Diane Loomer, Gail Randall and Craig McLeish. In addition, the choir will be
delighted to join the Wind Orchestra in 3 items composed by its musical director, Kieron Anderson,
and the orchestra will perform their own set of pieces independently of the choir.
