Author name: Elizabeth Charlesworth

I cannot imagine a life without singing. I was one of those incredibly lucky people who had marvellous teachers from whom learnt all my early repertoire - we sang all the time. After studying music at Newcastle University I sang with several small chamber groups before returning to my native Yorkshire. I took a Master's degree in performance and research on the Thomas Hardy songs of Gerald Finzi. at Sheffield University. My repertoire is varied but I lean very much to the British songs of the early twentieth century. I started the series 'Sunday@4' in Hoylandswaine and from that branched out to give recitals in churches and cathedrals throughout Yorkshire. My partners in song are Jonathan Bickley and Hugh Finnigan and I keep both of them busy! We have an informal approach and like to chat to the audience in the interval and after the performance.
