Liz Hanks – Land

Based on the local and natural history of her neighbourhood in Sheffield, Liz Hanks’ album ‘Land’ (Hudson Records) explores both the loss of nature in the urban environment and forgotten natural worlds. She discovered that the now urban area of Meersbrook was once a beautiful valley called ‘Rush Dale’, inspired by reading written accounts of this lost valley she created ‘Land’ in remembrance of these forgotten times and places.
Using solo cello and field recordings Liz Hanks’ album Land she draws on her influences from a varied and eclectic career of folk, Indian classical music, improvisation and minimalism.
