MAGNIFICAT

MAGNIFICAT – “My soul doth magnify the Lord” – and what better way to do so than in the singing of glorious choral music?
The Sheffield Chorale’s summer concert, obviously named for Bach’s ‘Magnificat’, will comprise a varied mix of both sacred and secular music.
In addition to the much loved choral standards of Stanford’s ‘The Blue Bird’, Elgar’s ‘As Torrents in Summer’, Finzi’s ‘My spirit sang all day’ and Faure’s ‘In Paradisum’ from his beautiful ‘Requiem’, the programme will also include many less familiar items, including several composed specifically for the choir. ‘Winter Stars’ by Jon Uribari and ‘Greet again the Mountains’ by Greg Harradine, were the glorious winners of our 50th anniversary competition and the choir is delighted to have the opportunity to perform these pieces again. Likewise the arrangement of Psalm 100 composed by our resident composer, Sue Hughes.
Additionally, the programme will include a handful of songs composed in the last decade, highlighting the works of Lydia Jane Pugh, Sarah Macdonald, Stella ter Hart, Fiona Lander and Edmund Jolliffe.
The choir will be directed by Kate Shipway and our accompanists will be Linda Wareham on piano and Darius Battiwalla on the organ.
Complimentary refreshments will be included in the ticket price.
