‘Mellow Autumn’ with Elizabeth Charlesworth & Jonathan Bickley

Warming sounds for an autumn afternoon

As days become cooler and nights are longer we explore the rich, mellow sounds of Brahms. From the warmth of the fireside we can look back on summer fields, whirring wings of insects and the song of the nightingale. But Brahms also depicts the happiness of young love, evoking memories of impatience at the slow passage of the days until Sunday comes. We ‘bookend’ our programme with songs in English by almost-local-composer Haydn Wood, ending with part-Irish composers Bax and Moeran.
