Sheffield Symphony Orchestra is 70: Mahler 9

8th November 2025 at 7:30 pm - 9:15 pm
£6.50 – £15.50

Join the Sheffield Symphony Orchestra for the journey through Mahler’s magnificent 9th Symphony. It’s so epic it justifies a whole programme to itself! The 4th most favourite symphony, as voted for by classical music conductors, has complex themes of both love and loss with a final movement that disintegrates in a farewell to life and death. Early bird tickets are available at a reduced price for this concert, for a limited period only.

  • Email For Potential Players The SSO takes pride in the friendliness and supportive attitude between players. We believe this is why members have such long-standing loyalty and commitment to the orchestra. However, our membership does need to remain large enough to present the extensive repertoire we offer. In particular, we are looking to recruit more string players, especially violin and viola players of all ages. If you are interested, you can come along to a mutual trial period to see if it feels right. We rehearse weekly on Wednesday evenings from early September to late June, except during school holidays. To develop our orchestral sound, we plan to have day schools this season. This will be combined with social occasions to foster the orchestral camaraderie. We play to a high standard so players are expected to be a minimum level of grade 7 and usually around grade 8 or above. If the SSO’s description seems to match what you are looking for and you are curious, don’t hesitate to contact us via the website or Facebook, tweet us on Twitter, or call 07901 566960 to find out more.
