CLASSICAL WEEKEND 2025 – Waldershelf Singers

Waldershelf Singers invite you to a concert featuring a programme of traditional sea shanties – the songs sung by sailors to help them co-ordinate their movements and keep time while performing tasks on ships, and a way of relieving the monotony of these repetitive tasks.

A Drop of Nelson’s Blood – refers to the rum that Nelson’s body was said to be preserved in after his death after the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, so it could be transported back to Britain – this is not verified!

Let us transport you from land-locked Sheffield to a different life – a life as a member of a ship’s crew and a sea-faring community.

Waldershelf Singers is an independent mixed voice community choir. The choir has been in existence since 1962 and we aim to continually evolve – new members are always welcome! We sing everything from pop to classics, contemporary film and musical theatre, gospel and spiritual.
