A tea time concert given by young pianist, Marc Kawwas from Bethlehem. All proceeds of the concert will go towards the purchase of a piano for the Hebron Music Academy in Palestine.

Marc will perform a mixed programme of classical music in the church after which we will move to the church hall for tea and cakes and informal performances by: Kate Thomas, hand pans, Stan Edge and the Bell Haggs, vocal quartet and members of Sinsontes. Marc Kawwas will finish the afternoon with Arabic music arranged for piano.

Marc Kawwas is a Palestinian pianist currently studying at Chetham’s School of Music. He has played at a wide array of recitals, concerts, competitions, and music festivals across both the UK and Palestine.

Born in Bethlehem in 2006, Marc started playing the piano at the age of six. He had a glaring love for music from that young age. In 2019, Marc took part in Chetham’s Piano Summer School. Following which, at the age of 14, Marc completed his studies at the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music (ESNCM) and joined Chetham’s School of Music.

Hebron Music Academy is the dream child of Noor Al Raee, a musician from a refugee camp near Hebron.

Until the creation of this small haven of musical teaching and learning, there was nowhere in Hebron, a city in the South of Palestine, to experience, explore and develop musical skills.

Noor has set out to change this and there are now 60 students aged between 6 and 30. It’s a phenomenal achievement.

Noor believes in music as a passport to communicate with the world. He is passionate about creating opportunities and about opening the hearts and minds of the people of Hebron to their own musical heritage as well as the music of other cultures and people.
