Let's Do It
One of the Sunday at 4 series. A mixed programme from Verdi to Cole Porter
Legend has it that Vaughan Williams wrote Linden Lea at Hooton Roberts near Rotherham. When I said I wanted to follow it with ‘The Water Mill’ but only had the low key Jonathan dug about until he found a copy in ‘my’ key. We can never resist ‘Silent Noon’, such a beautiful picture of a hot summer’s day. Verdi is well known for his operas but his songs are less often performed. They have all the passion and melody of opera but with a little less drama. You can often hear echoes of the operas in the melody and harmony. Cole porter was one of the leaders of new style music in America and needs little explanation. Such a wonderful range of emotions from 'True Love' to 'Let's Do It'. The concert will be repeated in Sewerby Hall Bridlington on 11 July.

Elizabeth Charlesworth (soprano) and Jonathan Bickley (piano)
