SYO Film Music Community Orchestra Day

Inviting local musicians, students in schools and universities, teachers, families and alumni to join Sheffield Youth Orchestra for a FREE inspirational day of music making.

Calling all Sheffield (and surrounding area) musicians both young and old! We are delighted to announce the next installment of our community day series - rehearsing and performing epic orchestral film scores under the baton of our conductor, River Edis-Smith.

Harry Potter Suite - John Williams et al. (Full-Day)

Mars from 'The Planets' - Holst (Full-Day)

Earth - Hans Zimmer (Part-Day)

All ages and backgrounds are welcome, but we strongly recommend ABRSM Grade 5 and above, (or with similiar experience without the equivalent grading) for full-day participants.

Beginners instrumentalists are invited to participate in community day for a mini rehearsal from 2:30pm, culminating in a concert with everyone from 4:15pm. For the part-day experience, we will be rehearsing and performing Earth and is suited for ABRSM Grade 1-4 players.

New for this community day, part-day players can choose from a selected number of parts for their instrument based upon graded difficulty.

There will be an free informal performance at 4:15pm for friends and families to attend at Central United Reformed Church.

A free light lunch buffet and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

The day is free to attend for all players (sign-up required) and audience members, however we welcome any donations for the running of the day. Donation buckets will be placed at the end of the concert.

It is vital to sign up as we need to know numbers for the day. We are looking for players in all sections of the orchestra, however places are offered on a first come first serve basis. Some instrument groups will fill-up quicker than others. Sign up now to avoid disappointment.
