Echoes of the Isles
Music invoking coastal and rural Britain, with a touch of war
We're thrilled to do our first concert with guest conductor (and Yorkshire native) Ben Crick. This programme explores aspects of the British coast (Hebrides, Tintagel), and also pieces connected with British landscapes but which have references to war: Butterworth's A Shropshire Lad is about a young man who goes off to war, and Vaughan Williams' Pastoral Symphony is often thought to relate to the landscapes of the Somme.
Programme
- Mendelssohn: Hebrides Overture
- Bax: Tintagel
- Butterworth: A Shropshire Lad Rhapsody
- Vaughan Williams: Pastoral Symphony
